THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME
The name Argyle has a historical tie to The Glencoe Club. The origins of the Glencoe name are in Scotland’s valley of Glencoe in the county of Argyle near the head of Loch Etive. It is bounded on both sides by almost perpendicular mountains more than 3,000 feet high.

There is a connection to sports, as Argyle is also a timeless diamond pattern that is associated with attire worn by golfers, curlers and those in racquet sports. The pattern is also seen on contemporary business and casual wear that is popular among men and women.

Argyle simultaneously conveys a sense of elegance and approachability; tradition and modernity. It has a homey, welcoming feel – perfectly suited to this restaurant and patio.

RESERVATIONS
Reservations for both the Family Dining and Adult Dining sections of Argyle Kitchen + Patio can be made by calling 403-287-4190 or reserving online.

ATTIRE
As with our previous outlets there are to be no ball caps, no white racquet attire and appropriate summer attire on the patio please. Dress code for Argyle Kitchen + Patio is smart casual.

The Club has introduced a temporary change in the dress code in Argyle Kitchen + Patio, effective immediately we will be allowing racquet sport ‘white attire’ until such time that the pub re-opens later this fall. We have had feedback that because of the stringent dress code members were missing a significant piece of Glencoe Club culture, community and the second home feeling that we pride ourselves on.

ENVIRONMENT
Our goal is for Argyle Kitchen + Patio to be enjoyable for all Glencoe members and therefore ask that children remain seated at their tables with their parents. Youth under the age of 18 can only be seated on the Family side of Argyle. Adults may sit on either side.

The Story Behind The Name

In 1912, the Calgary Skating Club was formed which cultivated the growing interests of figure skating in the city. With Calgary’s erratic climate, by 1921, members of this Club were working on plans for an indoor rink. This dream quickly grew among the enthusiastic group and the concept was expanded to become one of Western Canada’s first family and recreational sports clubs.

One of the most active members of the Calgary Skating Club, E.A (Ernie) McCullough became the catalyst that brought skaters, bowlers, curlers, badminton and tennis players all together under one roof. He was the chairman of the committee which started The Glencoe Club in 1929-1930 and became our first president in March 1931.

That August, this group of spectacularly ambitious Calgarians witnessed the sod turning ceremony for The Glencoe Club and opened its doors just 3 months later on November 16, 1931.
